March Madness (Warning: NO basketball content!)
March is always a busy month for me.
My “9 to 5” job is usually busy enough, but this month saw the extra additions of focus groups in another city and video shoots for our 2024 product and marketing campaigns. I also managed to work in a week of vacation and getting out to do a lot of photography and hiking with Renee. The saying goes for the month of March - “In like a lamb, out like a lion”, but for me the whole month was more like a lion!
The first day of the month found me editing images from the performance of “James and the Giant Peach Jr.” that I shot for the Youth Arts Ambassadors in Springfield, Ohio on the night of February 29th. YAA puts on a great show, and this performance was no exception. I’ve been shooting images for them for many years now, and its always fun to see the kids growing up and showing their talent on stage. A few of my favorite images from the performance are below. The next day I was out and about doing some film photography, including giving Harman Phoenix 200 another try. The last time I shot with it I wasn’t very impressed, but decided I’d give it another try by doing some daytime photography. I stopped by the newly completed Greater Dayton School, which is a great combination of modern design and colors. Here are a few shots I shot on Phoenix 200 with my Konica C35. The red really pops. I rated the film at 80 ISO instead of the 200 box speed.
It’s starting to grow on me. While the resolution isn’t great, I can see this being a good film to shoot if you are going for vivid colors.
The next day I ventured out to Big Island Reserve and Killdeer Plains to do some bird photography. While the large amount of migratory birds still have to move through, it was still a productive trip.
The next week, Renee and I spent several days in Hocking Hills in a cabin. A few of the days it rained, but we still got out to hike and enjoy the area. Oh, and I brought along a few cameras and shot some film.
The next week I had focus groups for work, but managed to get out the next weekend to do a little more bird photography. Spring is finally starting to get into full swing!
The next week saw me busy with video production for work, but finally the last weekend of March I was able to get out and shoot some spring blooms with my Konica C35, while giving Lomochrome Turquoise another chance at redeeming itself in my eyes. A few shots from the two rolls are below. While its another film with a bit of an acquired taste, its starting to grow on me.
And then BOOM, March was over.
What’s in-store for April? I’ve got images in shows at both Springfield Museum of Art and Dayton Society of Artists beginning in April. More on that to come. And, I am still prepping work and a presentation for my solo show at Sinclair Community College next month in May in the Triangle Gallery. Look for a full post on that in the future.
Stay tuned!
As always, thanks for reading.
